BUDDHA and THE MACHINE

COMING SOON

"We are quickly approaching the most  important developments in human history since the invention of the steam engine. A period of human social progress that futurists, scientists and, social theorists believe will be the last greatest leap in human technology and thereby consciousness.  In this current historical moment,  we are approaching an immense technological and social breakthrough. This leap will catalyze all existing advances in computer technology, brain science, and artificial intelligence and lead to post-human, machine age. I teach, lecture, and mentor on what this transition means philosophically, economically and ethically."

MY BOOKS

In June of 2017, I published a collection of essays, “Vague Apocalyptica,” themed around democracy, corporatism, and humanism. In 2018, I plan to publish a new collection of essays on quantum mechanics and metaphysics and my second novel, “Latent Sonata.”

VAGUE APOCALYPTICA

"Essential reading for every American. Beautifully written, this series of essays will at turns wake you up, piss you off and compel you to action. Get the actual soft copy which you can hold in your hands, take to the beach or a quiet place and contemplate each section then share it with someone you care about after you've read it. Louis has a rare gift for language and you come away sharper, smarter, and more aware of all the issues that currently plague American society and culture. This is the perfect book to give to any 18-20 something in your life as well so they can actually read and digest something of substance and begin to develop their own points of view on each of these critical issues. We need every American to read this and engage as informed citizens. Am so thankful there are writers in the world still left like Louis. This is a rare gem."

CAPERNAUM

"Capernaum is a gripping novel that will pull you in from the moment you pick it up. The story draws a paralleled comparison between two kinds of wars-including childhood trauma and actual war on the battlefield. The story will hold you close, as you begin to learn about the silent and painful struggles of one man's youth, family secrets fighting for mere survival, and how a father has an unyielding negative impact on the lives of his children and wife. As you follow the main character, you can understand his pain on the battlefield and within his home. Prepare to feel attached to him, cheer for him and even love him. This book is challenging to put down; be prepared for an emotional read. The story can touch anyone's heart, as it did mine so gracefully. Mr. Lo Praeste has a unique tone in his words; I highly recommend this book."

ZAZEN AND THE MACHINE AGE

MY NEW COURSE ON FINDING PEACE IN THIS CHAOS

In Japan, Zen Buddhists meet informally in small community meditation groups call “zazenkai” to practice meditation (zazen) and offer one another support. Louis will be facilitating a “zazenkai for the machine age” based on the principles of Soto Zen Buddhism, meditation, and simple group therapy dynamics. The small intimate setting is appropriate for people who would like to explore the relevance of zen Buddhist metaphysics and practice as an antidote to modern busy-ness.

This will be a closed group and will meet two times a week at his home in eight week cycles. The group will not exceed 5-8 people maximum but is often as small as three. You will be required to bring or buy a meditation cushion. We may be able to arrange buying some if you need one.

Please note: This is NOT a 12-step meeting nor is it a substitute for one. It is not meant for people trying to get clean and sober -is meant to be a general meditation group- a community sitting place for those wish to learn more about Zen Buddhism and its helpful relationship to the art of recovering their humanity.  Please inquire by email or telephone.

Space is limited so if you are interested in attending, email us before the next meeting date (the next Tuesday or the next Friday.)

POLAR BEAR conservation

There's still time to save polar bears
and the Arctic sea ice.

If you are wondering why a polar bear appears in the Bigthinker logo, here is the reason: both personally and professionally I donate a percentage of my own and organisation's revenue to support Polar Bear Protection and Conservation. Change can’t happen overnight, and it won't happen without support from you.

So please join me and my furry friends in our efforts, by spreading awareness about the real and pressing threat to arctic wildlife.
